Man slammed by MBTA bus

LYNN - A 48-year-old man remained hospitalized Monday night after a public bus struck him on Rand Street around 2:30 p.m., authorities said.

Police know the man's identity, but did not release it Monday night pending notification of family members, according to Lynn and MBTA Transit police.

Loved ones arrived at the scene a short time after the crash and became visibly upset.

Debris, including clothes and shoes left behind by the victim, remained strewed on the street next to a parked car Monday afternoon.

Transit Police and Lynn Police questioned the bus driver and numerous passengers on the Route 436 bus, who were ordered to remain on the bus after the accident.

The victim was initially going to be transported by helicopter to a Boston hospital, but for reasons unknown, the helicopter was not able to transport the victim. He was being treated at an undisclosed hospital Monday night.
Rand Street is a side street that runs between Chestnut Street and Ford Street. The MBTA bus was taking a detour around Chestnut Street, which is closed in both directions due to construction, according to MBTA spokeswoman Lydia Rivera.

The bus route runs from Liberty Tree Mall in Danvers via Goodwin Circle to Central Square in Lynn.

Investigators blocked off Rand Street and kept the bus at the crash scene well into Monday evening.

" Mbta bus drivers are the worst around and there should be a sting operation to get them inline with city driving.. They swerve over the double solid lines like they have the right away and fail to yield to oncoming traffic, They pull out of bus stops abruptly and there is a car beside them they dont slow down at all. police take notice and start ticketing theese attempted murderers so our seniors and children may have a chance at life. The motorists in general are out of control and unless your on a motorcycle you can get awaywithmurder "

" because of the construction the city has to be also at blame because busses would have a hard time getting down the street. Soor to say but the person hit should have steped out of the street for a moment so and waited until after the bus went by and then resumed what he was doing. "
