Mass. Wildcats impress
The 16U Mass Wildcats fast-pitch softball team, featuring Cortney Fletcher of Swampscott, Sammy Kiley of Lynn and Molly Walsh, formerly of Lynn, finished second in the Battle of Burnham in Methuen the weekend of July 11-13.
The Wildcats put together two come-from-behind victories in the final innings during the single-elimination round on Sunday. In the first game, a pinch-hit single tied it up 3-3 in the final inning for the Wildcats to go on to win in the international tie-breaker round against the Firecracker Fury. In the second game, the Wildcats knocked in the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning against the North Shore Storm, earning them a spot in the finals.
After going 4-1 during the weekend, the Wildcats lost 8-7 in the finals. The Wildcats were down 8-4 going into the bottom of the seventh but rallied back within one run.
